We did this last year too. We used the dried orange slices in place of bows for the Christmas presents. It successfully added some flair to our brown-paper wrapped presents and it impressed some friends! My son was particularly excited when I told him that we were going to make some dried orange slice ornaments this year. Since we had a bigger tree, we would need more decorations!
Last year we took our time baking the orange slices slow while we are roasting some other vegetables for dinner. This year I used a small toaster oven rather than the big oven since I wasn't baking anything else. The toaster oven got hot too quickly and I burnt some of the orange slices! So make sure you don't lose patience and bake it on the low temp and slowly.
